Spanx for the Memories

Miss South Carolina week arrived!  I dragged the old pageant gown box from underneath my bed, blew off the dust and proceeded to pray that some garment with rhinestones fit. Outfit after outfit, the mirror was not too kind. UGGH. Finding the perfect outfit and dealing with weight issues is one flip-flop women do not like! My new book, “Rhinestones on My Flip-Flops”,  being released in September, addresses weight issues that women face, spanx and much more!

Spanx to the rescue! I have a whole drawer filled with them; high waist, low waist, long boys, bra Spanx, non-bra, body suit Spanx, and the list goes on.

As an aging beauty queen it truly is a marvelous way to recapture somewhat of your pageant weight and revisit special memories.

Yes, as I walked the runway at the Township Auditorium with my Miss SC sistahs, we each remembered our moment of being crowned Miss South Carolina. Spanx for the memories….

Wisdom from IHOP: Never too Old to Have it All

Motivational Message from IHOP

Motivational Message from IHOP

I am getting to the age when age messages bother me. How special when AARP starts to inform you that you are almost 50 and can finally have the coveted AARP card. Ode’ to joy. AND they start informing you months prior to the big event. While eating breakfast the other morning I glanced down and read on my menu the wisdom from IHOP: Never too old to have it all.

IHOP’s definition of “it all” is a sausage, an egg over easy, hash browns, bacon and slab of Spam. Another insult is the age limit for this delicacy is 55+.  What if I am 54? Can I order everything but the slab of Spam? I wondered if they had another section that read, 85+“You are now too old to have it all” accompanied with a picture of prune juice, oatmeal, and a side order of Metamucil.

Facebook? I’m so Old I Need a Ouija Board to Contact My Friends.

I love listening to the wisdom of my older friends. There is a wealth of information and insight that only older folks understand. In my new book, “Bury Me with My Pearls,” I talk about those precious pearls of wisdom. Here is a good one: “Facebook? “A merry heart doeth good like a medicine……” “Sometimes,” says Roger Rabbit, “the only weapon we have is a laugh.” Amen. I have always heard that tragedy plus time equals comedy. My question is, “Can you find the humor?” No disrespect meant when horrible things happen but humor and levity can be healing. One of my dearest friends pre-maturely lost her husband to cancer. As we watched and waited in the hospital for the inevitable, she looked and me and said, “I just hope he does sit up in bed and yell out the name of his old girlfriend.” I knew, right then, she was going to be ok.
