Red, Ripe Tomatoes and the Eiffel Tower

MzDOmqgIt is tomato season on Johns Island.  I remember all of those hot summers I picked tomatoes to help my daddy with incidental expenses during my college years.  Here is an excerpt from my book, Bare Feet to High Heels, that reminds me of timeless life-lessons that helped me many years ago and still reminds me of simple success principles.

It’s hard to believe that leaning over picking tomatoes in a hot Johns Island tomato field eventually got me to the top of the Eiffel Tower. A long journey made simple by five principles—truths I must share.

This chapter will not make you laugh; it will make you think. Enjoy a bucket filled with vine-ripened, staked, irrigated, unculled down-home wisdom.

My journey to the top of the Eiffel Tower began in my own backyard. I started a wholesale tomato business that helped me to earn money for college in addition to teaching me timeless success principles. The long, hot hours I spent working in my Daddy’s tomato fields still have an impact on my life.

1996 New Year’s Resolutions; 20 Years of the Same Goals

Click on the picture to see Jane’s new demo video!

I was curious. New Year’s Resolutions always fascinate me since many are made and few are followed. According to an ABC News research poll here are the top five New Year’s resolutions for 2016:
5-Save More-Spend Less
4-Spend More Time with Family and Friends
3-Lose Weight
2-Live a Healthier Lifestyle
1-Enjoy Life to the Fullest
I did some research and here are some New Year’s Resolutions from 1996.
Quit Smoking
Eat Better
Lose Weight
Join the gym
Find Love
Enjoy Life
Stress Less
Find a New Job
Eat Healthier Foods
Spend more time with my family.
Do you see a pattern?  We have been chasing the same goals for over twenty years. Why do we want the same things?  The key word is action. Experts tell us the best way to accomplish our goals are to make them public. Along with action we need accountability.
Complete your goals for 2016 by adding action and accountability.

The Beautiful Ugly of Low Tide

When I was a cIMG_20140830_190826_962hild my daddy would put his beloved boat, The Never-No II into the water by way of the family boat ramp into Abbapoola Creek.  This ramp is still a tradition that is enjoyed by many family members today. Daddy was a skilled boater and knew every bank and oyster bed as he made his way through the winding turns to the big water of the Stono River.  Although there were many challenges to be navigated around I learned that there is a beautiful ugly of  low tide.

It always made me a bit nervous when the Never-No was launched on a low tide.  You would see mounds of pluff mud, blue crabs looking the next delicious toe to attack and tiny fiddler crabs with claws that were three times as large as their small bodies. There was also junk throw into the creek by my grandfather (Gumpa) that DNR by today’s standards would consider a felony offense.
