Christmas in Small Towns

Christmas in these parts is quite entertaining. Ever since the town of Edgefield has been playing Christmas music in the square I feel like Strom is putting on a show. I park my car, hear the music, glance towards the square and for just a second I feel like Strom is singing. I know better but the music plus the pose of the statue makes it seem that way. Christmas in small towns can be quite entertaining.

I just love the music and mood set by the sights and smells this time of year. Walking down Calhoun Street past Johnston’s Tidwell Jewelers is like starring in a Christmas movie.  If you happen to take that walk between 11 AM and 2 PM, the music from Danny’s store and smell of Riley’s fixins entertains the senses. All the towns around our area look wonderful and so festive.

The Songs of Change in Our Life

Songs of Change in our LivesYesterday our daughter, Caroline graduated from Clemson University.  We were experiencing another change in our family. Thomas and I were so proud and the legacies of our Clemson families made both of us emotional during the playing of the Alma Mater.  It was that song that gave us both joy and tears.

Since I am a singer and love music, I started thinking about songs that are symbols of milestones in our lives.  I love this quote; “Life is short but wide.” The longer we  live and more we take advantage of the width of life, the more songs we celebrate.

The first song that represented both challenge and change in my life was the playing of “Pomp and Circumstance” at my high school graduation.  Then, again at my college graduation.
